Editorial and Peer Review

JOURNAL BIOMEDICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNOLOGY

Journal Biomedical and Environmental Health Technology (BIOHEALTH) aims to contribute to the development of biomedical engineering, medical informatics, and environmental health engineering by publishing articles that address any urgent and latest issues in these fields. As such, Jurnal BIOHEALTH follows a rigorous screening and peer review process to ensure the scientific integrity of submitted manuscripts.

Submitted manuscripts are assessed based on whether they fit the journal's focus and scope, have adequate academic quality, provide novelty, and can appeal to the journal's readership. A double-blind peer review is employed, which means the reviewers remain anonymous to the author(s) throughout and following the review process, whilst the identity of the author(s) is likewise unknown to the reviewers.

A more detailed description of the Jurnal BIOHEALTH editorial process can be found below.

INITIAL SCREENING

A newly submitted manuscript is screened by the Editorial Board for its conformity to Jurnal BIOHEALTH's basic submission requirements. If the manuscript fails to pass the initial screening, it will be returned to the author(s) for correction. Please adhere to the author's guidelines and the BIOHEALTH template for the manuscript to be reviewed immediately.

PLAGIARISM SCREENING

Following the initial screening, the manuscript will be checked for its similarity index to previously published content using Turnitin software. The maximum similarity index allowed is 20%, excluding references and standard methodology descriptions. Plagiarism screening takes about three days.

PEER REVEIEW

If the manuscript passes the plagiarism screening, it will be assigned to an Editor, who then identifies at least two reviewers with expertise in the relevant field and then assigns them as reviewers. The manuscript is anonymized, and a double-blind peer review is carried out. The peer review process takes four to six weeks.

FIRST DECISION

A decision is only made when at least two review reports have been received. If the reports (and/or reviewers' recommendations) differ significantly, the Editor will request an additional reviewer to aid them in determining its suitability for publication.

At this stage, a manuscript can either be rejected, require minor or major revision, or be accepted as it is. If minor revision is required, the manuscript will be returned to the corresponding author for revision. If major revision is required, the manuscript will enter the second round of review. If the manuscript is accepted, it will enter the copyediting stage for formatting based on Jurnal BIOHEALTH's author guidelines. The decision for every manuscript is solely made by the Editor based on the reviewers' comments and recommendations.

REVISION STAGE

A manuscript that requires revision is returned to the corresponding author, who will have around three weeks to revise the manuscript based on the reviewers' comments and to format the manuscript based on the editorial comments. The Editor will then determine if the required changes have been made, that they are adequate and appropriate, that the author(s) has responded to the reviewers' comments and suggestions, and that the author(s) has followed the editorial comments. If the revisions are deemed to be inadequate, this stage will be repeated, giving the author(s) another opportunity to address these concerns.

FINAL DECISION

At this stage, the revised manuscript is either accepted or rejected. This decision is based on whether the Editor finds the manuscript to have been improved to a level worthy of publication.

COPYEDITING AND PROOFREADING

Accepted manuscripts undergo professional copyediting and proofreading to ensure compliance with journal standards. Authors will receive galley proofs for final approval before publication. This stage typically takes one to two weeks.

PUBLICATION

Once the copyediting process is complete, the article is published online in the journal's website. Articles are published under the "Online First" system, allowing immediate access while awaiting inclusion in the next scheduled issue.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

All manuscripts must comply with ethical standards including:

  • Research involving human subjects must have ethical approval
  • Proper informed consent for case reports
  • Declaration of conflicts of interest
  • Acknowledgment of funding sources
  • Compliance with animal welfare standards (if applicable)
