Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness and safety of traditional Madeng midwifery care and modern postpartum healthcare methods at Puskesmas Blang Mangat. Madeng, as a deeply rooted postpartum care tradition in Acehnese culture, involves the use of herbal remedies, massage techniques, a special diet, and body care through heating methods. Meanwhile, modern healthcare focuses more on an evidence-based approach, involving standard medical interventions for the physical recovery of mothers and newborns.  The study results indicate that both methods have their respective advantages. Madeng practice is considered effective in providing social and emotional support and holds strong cultural value. However, some of its techniques require further attention regarding safety and scientific validation. On the other hand, modern healthcare demonstrates higher effectiveness in preventing complications and ensuring a faster physical recovery, although it sometimes lacks emphasis on emotional and social aspects.
