Schizophrenia is a mental condition marked by significant cognitive disturbances that impact language, perception, and self-identity. Schizophrenic individuals require aid and monitoring from their family caregivers. Caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia encounter stress that is affected by their coping skills and the availability of social support. This study sought to examine the correlation between coping methods and social support about the stress levels of caregivers for schizophrenia patients at the outpatient clinic of RSJ Prof. HB Saanin Padang. Correctional analytical study design utilizing a cross-sectional methodology. The study population comprised 1,491 families who visited the outpatient clinic of RSJ Prof. HB Saanin Padang. The sample comprised 74 individuals selected by purposive sampling methodology. The univariate analysis results indicated that over half (51.4%) of caregivers experienced elevated stress levels, more than half (55.4%) exhibited a propensity for emotional-focused coping (EFC) strategies, and over half (51.4%) reported inadequate social support. Bivariate analysis results indicated a strong correlation between coping methods (p-value = 0.000) and social support (p-value = 0.020) with the stress levels of caregivers for schizophrenia patients at the outpatient clinic of RSJ Prof. HB Saanin Padang 2024. This research concluded that a relationship exists between coping mechanisms and social support concerning the stress levels of caregivers for schizophrenia patients at the outpatient clinic of RSJ Prof. HB Saanin Padang. Outpatient clinic nurses are expected to deliver health education on adaptive coping skills and effective social support to alleviate stress levels in caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia.
