Abstract

Vaginal discharge is a common reproductive health issue among female adolescents, often linked to personal hygiene practices. While knowledge is a foundation for healthy behavior, there is still a gap between theoretical understanding and the actual incidence of vaginal discharge. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of personal hygiene knowledge and the incidence of vaginal discharge among female adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Sleman. This quantitative study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Sleman from June 23 to 27, 2025. A sample of 84 female students from grades VII and VIII was selected using the stratified random sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 10 items for personal hygiene knowledge and 5 items for vaginal discharge incidence, which were tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank statistical test (α<0.05). The results showed that all respondents (100%) had a good level of personal hygiene knowledge. However, 4.8% of students still experienced pathological discharge, while the majority experienced physiological discharge. The Spearman Rank test yielded a p-value of 0.001 with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.353. There is a significant negative correlation between the level of personal hygiene knowledge and the incidence of vaginal discharge among female adolescents. Higher knowledge is associated with a lower risk of vaginal discharge. Despite the high level of knowledge, the presence of pathological cases highlights the need for interventions focused on the consistent application of hygiene practices.
