Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a long-lasting metabolic condition or disorder characterized by high blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance. DM can cause complications that negatively impact the patient's life. One factor that affects the quality of life of DM patients is self-efficacy. Low self-efficacy in DM patients regarding their condition and health can lead to unhealthy behaviors. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Tanjungpinang City community health center. The research method is correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 70 people using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that 56.3% of type 2 DM patients had sufficient self-efficacy, and 54.9% had a moderate quality of life. The Spearman Rank test obtained a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05), with an r value of 0.0462, indicating a positive relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Tanjungpinang City community health center. It is hoped that type 2 DM patients can increase awareness in implementing the six pillars of DM management and strengthen self-efficacy to improve the quality of life through a healthy lifestyle.
