Abstract

Patients with advanced-stage cancer experience pain symptoms that can decrease their functional capacity and quality of life. This study aims to describe the pain experienced by advanced-stage cancer patients at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. Methods This research uses a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted on advanced-stage cancer patients at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, involving 206 respondents. The sampling method used was purposive sampling. The study results show that the majority of respondents were female, totaling 128 respondents with a percentage of 62.1%. The age range was 41-50 years, with 84 respondents representing 40.8%. The most common medical diagnosis was breast cancer, with 36 respondents, accounting for 17.5%. Regarding the pain experienced by advanced-stage cancer patients, the majority had mild pain intensity, with 103 respondents (50.0%). The effectiveness of pain medication showed that 159 respondents (77.2%) were fully helped by the medication. The impact of pain on the respondents' lives indicated that 131 respondents (63.6%) felt that pain significantly affected their daily lives. Based on the pain experienced by advanced-stage cancer patients, the majority had mild pain intensity, with 103 respondents (50.0%).
