EFEKTIVITAS ANTIMIKROBA DISINFEKTAN EUCALYPTUS SP DAN MELALUCA SP TERHADAP STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS

Latar Belakang: Staphylococcus aureus adalah salah satu mikroorganisme patogen yang paling sering terlibat dalam infeksi menular pada manusia. Disinfektan adalah biosida yang sering digunakan untuk mengeliminasi
mikroorganisme pada permukaan benda guna mencegah penyebaran penyakit menular. Ekstrak daun tanaman Eucalyptus sp. dan Melaleuca sp. Mengandung 1,8-cineole, zat antimikroba yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri spektrum luas sekaligus lebih aman bagi jaringan mukosa manusia. Diharapkan bahwa 1,8-cineole ini dapat menggantikan senyawa aktif yang umumnya terdapat dalam disinfektan. Tujuan: Penelitian
ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan efektivitas disinfektan yang dibuat dari minyak atsiri Eucalyptus sp dan Melaleuca sp dalam membunuh bakteri S. aureus. Metode: Distilasi daun kering Eucalyptus sp dan Melaleuca sp diperoleh minyak esensial (atsiri), kemudian ditambahkan chlorhexidine digluconate (CHG) dan 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Formula disinfektan tersebut kemudian diujikan pada koloni bakteri S. aureus. Hasil: Disinfektan spray yang diekstrak dari minyak esensial Eucalyptus sp memiliki zona inhibisi 38,99mm sedangkan yang terbuat dari ekstrak Melaleuca sp memiliki zona inhibisi 11,88mm. Kesimpulan: Pada konsentrasi yang sama,
disinfektan spray dengan minyak esensial Eucalyptus sp lebih efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.
