Fire, as an uncontrolled hazard, poses a significant threat to human life and business continuity. A field investigation at Port X revealed that both active and passive fire protection systems are either incomplete or non-compliant with safety standards.This study aims to evaluate the port's fire safety implementation, focusing on fire prevention strategies, the effectiveness of fire protection systems, the role of human resources, and existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Using a qualitative research approach with in-depth interviews and observation, data was collected from five informants at Port X in March 2025. Triangulation of sources and methods was applied to ensure the validity of the findings. The results show that the port possesses only one type of active fire protection, a fire extinguisher (APAR), which also fails to meet technical requirements. The port lacks a dedicated fire-fighting team, and fire safety training is not extended to all workers. Furthermore, there is no specific fire-related SOP, and the port's sole reliance on external emergency services is a major safety gap.This non-compliance is a direct violation of national regulations, specifically Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 50 of 2021 and the Minister of Public Works Regulation, which stipulate fire prevention and handling standards to protect life and property. The findings highlight a critical need for the port to adopt a more robust safety framework. It is strongly recommended that a comprehensive fire protection system be implemented, along with a focus on improving human factors and procedural compliance to mitigate operational risks effectively.
