Abstract

Hyperuricemia-related pain in older adults may cause discomfort, reduced mobility, and impaired psychosocial well-being. Simple community-based mind–body interventions may serve as supportive non-pharmacological strategies; however, evidence regarding Child Pose Yoga combined with deep breathing exercises among older adults with hyperuricemia remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate changes in pain intensity, serum uric acid levels, and emotional regulation following the intervention. This study employed a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest, involving 60 older adults with hyperuricemia. Participants received structured Child's Pose Yoga and deep-breathing exercises as part of a community-based, non-pharmacological program. Pain intensity was assessed as the primary outcome, while serum uric acid levels and emotional regulation were evaluated as secondary outcomes. Measurements were conducted before and after the intervention. Because the distribution of change scores was not normal, pre- and post-intervention differences were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with p < 0.05 set as the criterion for statistical significance. The results showed that the mean age of participants was 71.08 ± 5.42 years. After the intervention, serum uric acid levels decreased from 7.23 ± 0.47 mg/dL to 6.08 ± 0.63 mg/dL, pain intensity decreased from 4.45 ± 0.79 to 2.32 ± 0.60, and emotional regulation increased from 2.40 ± 0.59 to 4.82 ± 0.57. All changes were statistically significant (p < 0.001). Child's Pose Yoga combined with deep breathing exercises may serve as a supportive, community-based, non-pharmacological strategy, although randomized controlled trials with longer follow-up are needed.
